United States Culinary Colleges

Culinary means something related to cooking, and more people than ever before are following their dreams and attending culinary school in the United States. For that reason, there are new culinary schools springing up every year that provide help to fast food chains, restaurants, hospitals and others, or are interested in advancing the amateur chef.
  1. The Art Institute

    • The Art Institute is made up of more than 45 schools offering curricula in such creative endeavors as fashion, design and all forms of media arts as well as culinary skills. Not only has the culinary curriculum been designed to enhance the student's natural ability, it furthers that aim with the help of mentors. Some of The Art Institute's schools have on-site restaurants that are run by students to give them real world experience.

    The Star Career Academy

    • The Star Career Academy started in New York City, and it now has eight schools there as well as in Pennsylvania. You can take courses in culinary arts, hotel and restaurant management or baking, although it also offers courses in cosmetology and health management. You must be at least a high school graduate or have obtained a GED and be at least 18 years old. You must also be personally interviewed by members of the faculty to make a case for your admission. When you graduate, you will be well prepared for an entry-level position in the food service industry because emphasis is placed on running a restaurant.

    Kendall College

    • This college offers a four-year Bachelor of Arts Degree in Culinary Arts in addition to the Associates and Certificate programs. Students taking that course of study are exposed to food from South America, the Far East and the Mediterranean, and they also learn about good nutrition. Besides learning the ins and outs of cooking, you'll also be exposed to every facet of the business end of the food industry. French Culinary Institute

    • You would expect by the name of this school that it concentrates on teaching French cooking but that certainly isn't the case. Most cuisines have their roots in French cooking, as is indicated by graduate, Bobby Flay, whose a recognized authority on Southwestern cooking. The rigorous courses take an average of six months to complete and new ones are offered each month. If you are a seasoned professional chef, advanced courses are offered, and there are short programs for those who simply want to improve their skills in their own kitchens.
