Cooking Colleges in Boston

There are several options for cooking or culinary schools in the Boston area. Boston is known as the birthplace of New England clam chowder, and it also has a long history of featuring local produce. Boston cuisine also often makes use of fresh seafood given it's proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. One of the most famous culinary icons in United States history, Julia Childs, relocated to Cambridge in the 1960s, and she helped to raise awareness of the food and dining scene in Boston. Here are four of the local colleges, culinary schools and universities that offer a cooking or culinary arts program in the greater Boston area, including Boston, Sommerville, and Cambridge, Massachusetts.
  1. Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Boston

    • Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts has campus locations throughout the United States, and one in Boston. They offer three areas of study, one of which is available online. The training programs include specializations in the culinary arts, patisserie and baking, and hospitality and restaurant management. This final specialization is available for online study. Certification is available for all three specializations.

    The ArtEpicure Cooking School

    • The ArtEpicure Cooking School is located in Sommerville, Massachusetts, and they offer more recreational cooking courses rather than formal certification. Classes are offered for individuals, as well as private groups. There are several options available for individuals who wish to sign up for a predetermined class. Private group classes can accommodate ten. A private class for couples is also available.

    Boston University

    • Boston University offers a certificate program in Culinary Arts; upon graduation, students will be awarded a certificate in the culinary arts from Boston University. The faculty at Boston University's cooking program is comprised of practicing chefs as well as experts in various gastronomical fields. The program is a popular one, and has a very small class size limited to 12 students.

    The Cambridge School of Culinary Arts

    • The Cambridge School of Culinary Arts offers certificate and professional programs. The areas of specialization available are the professional chef's program; the culinary certificate program; the professional pastry program; and the certificate pastry program. Class sizes are small as the program prides itself on its hands-on training.
