How to Add Illustrator to MLA Format

The Modern Language Association, or MLA, founded in 1883 to promote the study and teaching of language and literature, has governed the citing of sources for academic writing in the humanities for decades. However, with the advent of so many new types of source material via computers and the Internet in the last two decades, MLA has had to keep up, including coming up with a way for citing software like Adobe Illustrator.

Instructions

    • 1

Start with the title of the software, in this case, "Illustrator."

    • 2

Add the version, such as "5.5" -- write down whatever version you are using.

    • 3

Add the city of publication, year of publication and form the software was packaged in, such as "downloaded," "DVD" or "floppy disk."

    • 4

Punctuate the citation with periods after the major elements. All publication information is joined with a colon and comma. A finished citation for CS5 looks like this: "Adobe Illustrator. Vers. CS5. San Jose, California: Adobe Systems, Inc., 2010. Computer software." Omit the quotation marks.
