How to Create an MLA Header

In order to effectively communicate, a writer must follow a framework of rules or guidelines that will be understood by his audience. One such set of guidelines is the Modern Language Association (MLA) Style, which is a writing style required by many professors. The MLA Style specifies a particular format for documenting resources and writing papers, including how to set up a header for a paper.

Instructions

  1. General Guidelines

    • 1

Create a header for your paper with text in the upper right-hand corner of the paper.

    • 2

Format the header so that its text is one-half inch from the top of the paper and flush with the right margin.

    • 3

Use for the text in the header your last name, a space and the page number in Arabic numerals.
