Online Bachelor Degree Programs

Online bachelor degree programs throughout the United States have become a common way for busy individuals to return to school for their first undergraduate degree or for career-advancing education opportunities. A vast variety of programs are available in areas such as business administration, social sciences, criminal justice and more. Students with prior postsecondary education can generally have transcripts assessed for advanced placement and may challenge a number of credits through examination.
  1. Empire State College

    • The Bachelor of Arts in cultural studies at Empire State College is a 128-credit program that allows students to choose from a wide variety of concentrations, such as cross-cultural studies, philosophy, religious studies and world languages and literatures. Students may apply up to 96 previously-earned credits toward the degree program upon a transcript evaluation by the college. The cross-cultural studies concentration includes courses in world history, ethnic conflict, modern China, bioterrorism, introduction to psychology and humans in the workplace. Upon completion of the undergraduate program, students may apply to a number of graduate-level studies at the university, including the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies and the Master of Arts in Social Policy.

    Indiana University-Purdue University

    • The Bachelor of General Studies at Indiana University-Purdue University is a 120-credit hour program that may be completed entirely through distance learning with a combination of online study and email and telephone communication with instructors. Students must complete 54 credit hours in arts and humanities, sciences and mathematics, and social and behavioral sciences. The remaining 66 credit hours may be comprised of elective courses. Courses in the arts and humanities designation include options such as philosophy, religious studies, history and journalism. The sciences and mathematics include astronomy, biology, entomology and horticulture, while the social and behavior designation includes courses in economics, anthropology, sociology and psychology. Students must complete a minimum of 12 credits in each designation. Students with previous college-level education may apply for transfer credit and may challenge credits by examination.

    Washington State University

    • The Bachelor's degree in Human Development at Washington State University prepares students for a career as a domestic violence caseworker, Head Start teacher, YMCA program manager and more. There is no residency requirement throughout the program; however, students must complete two undergraduate-level courses including human development: prenatal through age eight, and family systems: understanding family interaction, prior to acceptance into the bachelor program. Upon acceptance, the program requires the completion of a number of general education courses and concentration-specific courses. Students may apply for transfer credit for general education courses. The human development program includes courses such as advanced adolescent development, gerontology, research approaches to human development, child abuse and neglect, and diversity in contemporary families. Students may choose to complete the school's Early Childhood Development and Care Certificate throughout the program as well that includes a six-credit community based practical placement.
