The Airline Transport Professional's Flight Engineer Written Prep and Exam program helps you review the material that you need to pass the Flight Engineer (FEX) written exam. This is a one-day program, and it allows you to study at your own pace. You only study items that directly relate to the exam. The school also has a flight school, where you learn to fly commercial and private places, and training programs like the Airline Career Pilot Program. You must learn how to fly and flight techniques and equipment before you can take the FEX exam.
Phoenix East Aviation, Inc. offers courses where you learn how to fly and flying skills. These courses include the Professional Program, where you learn about flight instruments, engine ratings and glass cockpit training. In the Airline Internship Course, you must complete a 10-week course, and then you become part of a B-727 crew, including working as a first officer or a flight engineer. You work on the B-727 for 12 months or 500 hours, and you work in different positions throughout the course of the internship. This particular course is only offered at the school's South Florida campus.
The Gleim Aviation Online Ground School is a long-distance course, where students study at their own pace, and it offers a Flight Engineer Certificate. All of the classes are taught online, and you can download test preparation software to help you pass the exams. The school also offers a pilot refresher course, and it teaches the latest technological advances in the field. It also reviews standard flight protocols and procedures.
The National Test Pilot School offers flight test and engineering training, and you learn in the classroom and via hands-on methods, including simulators, laboratories and weapon ranges. The Modern Flight Control Systems course teaches you how to use the SIMULINK and MATLAB computer programs, which are flight engineering software programs. It also reviews the in-flight control systems and the principles of linear control. Other coursework includes dealing with quality control issues, and testing and evaluating aircraft control systems. You must pass two oral and one written exam to graduate from this class.
