Mauna Loa Helicopter is at the Keahole-Kona International Airport, the Honolulu International Airport and Lihue Airport on Kauai. The school is an FAA Part 141 approved school with professional instructors who have logged more than 2,000 hours of instruction. The school is also approved by United States immigration to teach foreign students. Upon completion of the course, Mauna Loa also helps career-minded students with job placement.
Hawaii Flight Academy was founded in 1991 and is on the big island. The Hawaii Flight Academy is both FAA-approved and it is an FAA testing center. The school is also approved by the United States immigration department to sponsor M-1 student visas for foreign students. Certifications offered include private pilot, commercial pilot, instrument rating, multi-engine rating, airline transport pilot and certified flight instructor.
The University of Hawaii Honolulu offers commercial aviation training, or AVIT. This airline training program prepares students for private, commercial, instrument, multi-engine, flight instructor and instrument flight instructor ratings. Students learn by using state-of-the-art equipment such as flight simulators and through coursework. Students may also log up to 250 hours in flight time during this program. Students also earn degree credits toward an associate's in science degree and those credits are transferrable to other four-year schools.
Tropicbird Flight Service is based in Kailua/Kona, Hawaii. It teaches fixed-wing flight instruction for both career and recreational purposes. Tropicbird Flight Service specializes in self-paced instruction. This enables students to complete the course quickly in an accelerated course or complete the required work at a leisurely pace.
