Flight Schools in Boston

The metro Boston area is home to some five million people. A city that large generally spawns a large number of airports, and Boston is no exception. Logan International Airport, Beverly Municipal Airport and Norwood Memorial Airport are all within a reasonably short drive from downtown Boston. There are also a number of smaller public airports. With all of these airports, it is hardly surprising that several flight schools operate out of the metro Boston area.
  1. Horizon Aviation

    • Horizon Aviation's Boston location operates out of Norwood Memorial Airport. The school offers three streams of flight training: For Fun, To Get Around and For My Career. Financial aid is available. Horizon Aviation operates a fleet of six different planes, including a Cessna 172S, Cessna 152, Cessna 172, Cessna 172RG, Piper PA30 and a Diamond DA40. Horizon also has a flight simulator. The school uses FAA-certified instructors with tens of thousands of hours combined experience between them.

    Executive Flyers

    • Executive Flyers (EFA) operates out of Hanscom Field in Bedford, Massachusetts. Executive Flyers offers both Part 61 and Part 141 courses. The school is home to several flight instructors, some with more than four decades of experience. Training leads to EFA's Private Pilot Certificate. EFA's planes include a Cessna 172, Cessna 172/G1000, Cessna 182/S/T/G1000, Piper PA28R Arrow, Beech Duchess BE-76 180, Decathlon (Acro) and an Extra 300L. The school also has an Elite PCATD flight simulator. You can rent planes by the hour, with rates varying depending on the plane. Flight instructors are available at an hourly or daily rate.

    East Coast Aero Club

    • The East Coast Aero Club (ECAC) operates out of three different locations in the northeastern United States. The location closest to Boston operates out of Hanscom Field in Bedford, which is less than half an hour away. ECAC offers a number of different types of flight training, including Private Pilot, Commercial Pilot, Instrument Rating, Multi-Engine Aircraft, Flight Instructor Training, Complex Endorsement and Airline Transport Pilot Training. The school's instructors have hundreds of thousands of combined hours of flight experience between them. The ECAC's fleet of planes includes a Piper Tomahawk, Piper Warrior, Piper Arrow, Cessna 172, a Cirrus SR20 and others.

    National Aviation Academy

    • National Aviation Academy's (NAA) New England location operates out of Hanscom Airfield. NAA's flight school specializes in ground crew training and aircraft maintenance. National Aviation Academy offers technical certificates in Aviation Maintenance Professional, Aviation Maintenance Technology, Avionics Technology, Aviation Maintenance Certification and Aviation Maintenance Management Technology. Programs range from two weeks to 21 months. Financial aid and career placement services are both available.
