Aviation Flight Schools

The number of aviation flight schools in the United States is extensive. The larger U.S.-based flight schools offer training primarily for those who want to be professional pilots, as opposed to flying for recreational purposes.
  1. Pan Am Academy

    • Pan Am Academy is the only surviving part of Pan American Airlines, which ceased operations in 1991. It has six locations in the U.S. and offers a number of courses in addition to flight training, including air traffic control and dispatcher training, flight attendant training and maintenance training. In addition to Miami, the academy has training locations in Cincinnati, Denver, Memphis, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, and London.

    Delta Connection Academy

    • Delta Connection Academy is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Delta Air Lines. It offers private pilot to commercial training and guarantees its FAA Industry Training Standard (FITS) students a job interview with Delta. The school has collaborated with Jacksonville University, Broward Community College and San Jacinto College, so students can also attain two- or four-year degrees.

    Airline Transport Professionals (ATP)

    • ATP has 26 flight training centers throughout the U.S. and owns 142 aircraft. It offers everything from private pilot training to airline transport pilot certificates and regional jet airline training. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has approved ATP's Airline Career Pilot Program for reimbursement, so veterans can use the Montgomery GI Bill to pay for training.
