Established in 1982, The Bartending Academy in Honolulu is Hawaii's oldest bartending school. The Bartending Academy offers two-week courses, which can include placement training in well-known bars and restaurants, and graduates receive a bartending certificate. The topics covered include bar setup, bar equipment, fundamentals of liquor, art of mixology, customer service, speed pouring, liquor laws, cash register management and industry update. Nationwide job placement assistance is also provided.
The Bartending Academy offers a two-week course, and candidates can choose from morning and evening sessions, held Monday through Thursday throughout the year. Students must be 18 or over to legally take the course. There is no requirement of previous experience, but according to the academy's website, candidates must "posses the aptitude necessary to perform the training in the classroom."
The Hawaii Professional School of Bartending holds classes at the Ohana West Hotel, Honolulu. Graduates of the course receive their State of Hawaii server's card after successfully completing the Liquor Commission's exam. The program includes topics including tools of the trade, bar techniques, garnishing and fruit cutting, opening and closing the bar, classic and popular drinks, customer service, speed techniques, cash register transactions and job-hunting tips.
Students at the Hawaii Professional School of Bartending undertake five days of training in your first week, followed by 10 hours of working behind a commercial barserving paying customers, in order to gain practical experience. Students can choose between morning and evening sessions. Candidates must be at least 18 years old to enroll.
