Online Speech & Language Pathology Programs

Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) diagnose and treat speech and language disorders. Most SLP jobs require a master's degree, and many require that you graduate from a program accredited by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). A shortage of SLPs in public schools has led to the rise of a number of distance learning master's programs, which are designed to accommodate aspiring SLPs who can't attend a traditional program due to financial or geographic limitations.
  1. James Madison University

    • The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at James Madison University offers an online Master of Science degree in speech-language pathology in coordination with Hampton University, Longwood University, and the University of Virginia. This part-time distance learning program, which is funded by the Virginia Department of Education, seeks to address a shortage of SLPs in public schools. Applicants must be affiliated with a public school system, and Virginia residents are given first priority. The program is accredited by ASHA.
