The University of North Carolina at Wilmington (UNCW) offers curriculum to pursue distance education studies in pre-engineering. UNCW offers a "two-plus-two" program that allows students to complete all pre-engineering requirements at UNCW and then complete their engineering degree at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, East Carolina University, North Carolina A & T University or North Carolina State University. The school also offers a three-plus-two program that allows students to receive two degrees. This program allows students to study environmental studies and environmental engineering or physics and electrical engineering. All prerequisite courses must be completed prior to transfer. Distance courses offered in pre-engineering include engineering statics, structures and properties, engineering dynamics, introduction to computer organization, fundamentals of logic design, solid mechanics and electrical circuits.

Utah State University also offers distance education courses for its pre-engineering program, but it does so through videoconferencing. Students in the state of Utah will primarily benefit from this format as the designated location for these video conferences is the Unitah Basin campus in the Northwest corner of the state. The university offers an associate's degree in pre-engineering in the disciplines of aerospace engineering, manufacturing, computer science, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, civil engineering and electrical engineering. Additional courses can be taken in biological engineering and engineering technology in education.
