Schools of Natural Health in Denver

Natural health, also known as holistic health or alternative medicine, is a growing field of medical practice in which practitioners take into account mental, physical and spiritual needs when completing a medical examination. Holistic health schools therefore focus on physical health as much as mental and spiritual health, giving practitioners a well-rounded education into every aspect of a human's needs. Denver and its surrounding areas have several schools that offer great educational programs to natural health practitioners.
  1. The Nutrition Therapy Institute

    • The Nutrition Therapy Institute (NTI) is located in downtown Denver. Founded in 1999, the school offers in-depth programs focusing on all aspects of nutrition, fundamentally emphasizing holistic nutrition in every area of the curriculum. The NTI emphasizes the importance of real-life simulations in which students can learn while practicing holistic nutrition. Programs include a master's in nutrition therapy, a foundation nutrition therapy program, a natural foods chef program and an herbal therapy program. Faculty include licensed naturopathic doctors, certified nutrition therapists, dietitians and certified herbal therapists.

Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Colorado Hospital

    • The University of Colorado's medical students at the Anschutz Medical Campus, less than 10 minutes from Denver, work in the University of Colorado Hospital during their tenure in medical school. Many may choose to learn through the Center for Integrative Medicine, which emphasizes the maintenance and healing of not only the body but the mind and soul, too. The Center for Integrative Medicine uses a mixture of alternative medical therapies, as well as traditional Western medical technology, to treat patients. Each treatment plan is individualized, as the doctors at the center realize that a treatment must be specifically tailored to the individual needs and feelings of every patient. Medical students learn therapies that include acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, chiropractic care, herb and supplement use and dosage, massage therapy, mind-body therapy, nutritional counseling and yoga.
