Medical Schools in Aruba

Aruba is located in the Lesser Antilles in the southern Caribbean Sea, near the coast of Venezuela. Aruba's educational system is based on the Dutch system, which means education is the responsibility of the country and the government finances the national education system. There are five universities in Aruba and two private medical schools. Students who graduate from Aruba's medical schools receive degrees that are recognized in North America.

Xavier University School of Medicine at Aruba

    • Founded in 2004, Xavier University School of Medicine (XUSOM), also located in Oranjestad, does not require MCAT scores for admission. In order to be considered for the MD program, students must complete all Pre-Medical requirements. The program is directed by doctors from the United States, and the curriculum is similar to medical schools in the U.S. The program covers basic sciences during the first two years and clinical sciences over the last two years. Students move on to complete clinical clerkships in U.S.-affiliated hospitals. Tuition costs about $7,000 per semester, as of 2010. The biggest challenge medical students face is passing their United States Medical Licensure Examinations.
