    • The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto is the public university's medical school. Located in the heart of the financial district, it is among Canada's oldest and most revered academic institutions and offers an Undergraduate Medical Education (M.D., doctor of medicine program) in medicine as well as post-M.D., master's, Ph.D., and post-doctoral fellowship programs.

The M.D. program is a four-year degree and houses approximately 850 students. The first two years are designed to provide biomedical and human anatomy knowledge as well as the principles of medical ethics and professionalism. Students spend their final two years in one or more of the university's ten affiliated teaching hospitals and ambulatory clinics to provide hands-on training in various specialties.

Admission to the University of Toronto's Faculty of Medicine is coveted; only eight percent of applicants are admitted to the school's M.D. program. Indeed, some of medicine's finest minds include alumni and faculty from the institution, such as Nobel prize winner Frederick Banting, who co-discovered insulin, and professor of molecular genetics John E. Dick, credited with identified the cancer stem cell.
