• The University of Texas' main campus at Austin hosts the Cockrell School of Engineering. At this college, architectural engineering is grouped with civil and environmental engineering. This school's program integrates many of the evolving fundamentals of the green movement in educating students to be environmentally conscious with both design and materials. The program works in close proximity to the indoor science and environmental engineering programs. The key aspects of this program are structural engineering, construction materials, construction engineering and project management, and building environmental engineering systems. The backgrounds of the faculty cover a broad range of interests within architectural engineering. That, combined with the six research centers, helps to make this program more effective at preparing the students for the future.

Pennsylvania State University

• Penn State's architectural engineering program is designed to give graduates a multitude of options as a professional. Students have four options, all based around building science: construction, which involves building construction engineering and management; lighting and electrical, based around lighting and electrical systems of buildings; mechanical, which emphasizes designing systems in buildings; and structural, which is a study of the structural design of buildings. Architectural engineering is in a college by itself, providing a unique focus on the discipline. Penn State's program, founded in 1910, is the oldest of its kind in the United States. This program uses eight different facilities, including a state-of-the-art computer lab and research centers.

University of Colorado at Boulder

• The University of Colorado at Boulder's program in architectural engineering prepares students to meet energy needs, building systems, urban development and community planning. Like many other universities, the school groups architectural engineering in with civil and environmental engineering. All of the college's programs have advanced research opportunities for students. The areas pertinent to architectural engineering are structural engineering and structural mechanics, building systems engineering and construction engineering management. Besides research, all programs offer students the ability to pursue a master's degree. The school has a large faculty, most of whom have doctoral degrees and are active members of the engineering field. Students benefit because their teachers have both academic and professional backgrounds.
