Located in London's Bedford Square, the Architectural Association School of Architecture is one of the world's top architecture schools. Some of the world's most influential architects have studied and taught at the AA, including Zaha Hadid, Rem Koolhaas, Daniel Libeskind and Richard Rogers. The AA offers undergraduate and graduate programs. Unlike many universities in the U.K., the AA is not a state-funded institution. Its tuition fees are therefore comparable to those of private universities in the U.S. The school is well regarded for its AA Publications, which have a long history of publishing influential architects, artists and theorists early in their careers. Many of the publications can be purchased at the AA bookshop, a comprehensive architectural bookstore.

The Bartlett School of Architecture is part of the University College London and is a leading rival of the AA. The curriculum is regarded as more technically oriented than the AA's. Because the Bartlett is part of the government-funded university system, tuition fees are comparable to other public institutions. Many notable students have passed through the Bartlett's halls, most famously Charles Jenks, a leading architectural theorist, and Farshid Moussavi of Foreign Office Architects. The Bartlett was led for many years by Peter Cook, a founding member of the firm Archigram.
