Top Ten Colleges in Georgia

Known as the "Peach State," Georgia is the home of almost 70 public colleges, universities and technical colleges, as well as over 45 private institutions of higher learning. Choosing one of these institutions to attend can be a difficult decision. With the emphasis on education in the United States, it is important to research the options.
  1. Emmanuel College

    • Offering associate's and bachelor's degrees in arts and sciences, business, Christian ministries and education, Emmanuel College is a private Christian college in northeast Georgia. As of March 2010, the school costs $6,440 a year for commuters (53 percent of the students are commuters). While it has an Evangelical, Pentecostal foundation, about 20 denominations of Christians are represented here.

    Morehouse College

    • Morehouse is a private African American college for men. The school offers bachelor's degrees in 26 different majors within the three areas of business administration and economics, humanities and social sciences, and science and mathematics. Costing $21,376 annually as of March 2010 for a nonresidential student, Morehouse has made the list of the top "feeder schools" in the U.S.---meaning that it sends its students to a top-tier graduate school---by the Wall Street Journal.

    Spelman College

    • As a private, independent African American College for women, Spelman is the first of its kind to create a Women's Research and Resource Center. It is a liberal arts college that offers bachelor's degrees in arts and sciences in 27 major areas. As of March 2010, commuters can expect to pay $20,926 a year in tuition and fees.

    Agnes Scott College

    • As an independent national liberal arts college for women, Agnes Scott College offers 33 undergraduate majors and 31 minors, programs in pre-law and pre-medicine, and dual-degree programs in architecture, engineering and nursing.     Atlanta Christian College

    • Atlanta Christian College is a private, four-year Christian institution that offers an associate of arts degree, bachelor of arts degree, bachelor of science degree and bachelor of theology degree. The school costs $14,450 a year for commuter students as of March 2010. Its academic departments are in the areas of biblical studies, business, counseling and human services, education, general studies, humanities and music.

The students can choose among six concentrations in each major. As of March 2010 tuition is $4,250 per semester if you live off-campus.     Wesleyan College

    • Wesleyan, established in 1836 as the first college for women in the world to grant degrees, offers undergraduate and graduate degrees with 32 majors and 29 minors. Wesleyan is still a women's college, but allows both men and women into its two master's programs, in business administration and early childhood education. The school was selected by Princeton Review as one of America's Best Value Colleges in 2009, with costs for a nonresidential student of $17,500 annually, as of March 2010.
