Arizona Christian Colleges

Many people who go to college choose to attend a Christian college or some other faith-based institution. Christian colleges are private institutions that generally appeal to certain students for reasons such as the faith-based education that they provide. Programs in theological or biblical studies, the opportunity to network with like-minded people and a close community atmosphere are all aspects of the Christian college experience that appeal to many students. Arizona offers students a number of opportunities to benefit from the Christian college experience.
  1. Grand Canyon University

    • Grand Canyon University (GCU), located in Phoenix, is a non-denominational faith-based institution that provides students with a liberal arts education. GCU was rated seventh among colleges offering online degree programs by Online Education Database, a site that rates online colleges according to various criteria such as scholarly citations, acceptance rate, graduation rate and the like. The university is composed of four different colleges in liberal arts, education, nursing and health sciences and business. The university offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in many fields of study. Notable among its programs with a Christian emphasis are degrees in the fields of biblical studies, pastoral ministry, urban ministry, youth ministry and Christian leadership.

    Southwestern College

    • Also located in Phoenix, Southwestern College is a Christian institution that follows in the Baptist tradition. The college was founded in 1960 and since then has provided students with a Christian education. Southwestern provides degree programs in a number of different fields, including those with a Christian emphasis. At the bachelor's degree level, the college provides a degree in biblical studies and one in Christian ministries. Outside of the field of religious studies, the college offers degrees in behavioral studies, business, education, music, science and general education studies. The college also offers a program for working adults that meets one night per week for eight weeks for each class.

    American Indian College

    • Also located in Phoenix, American Indian College is rooted in the Christian Pentecostal tradition. The school offers an associate of arts degree in the fields of business and Christian ministry. At the bachelor's degree level, American Indian College offers a bachelor of arts in Christian ministry and in elementary education. American Indian College is regionally accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and received its licensing from the Arizona State Board for Private Postsecondary Education. Furthermore, the school has received an endorsement from the Commission on Christian Higher Education.
