Christian Colleges in West Virginia

West Virginia is home to a number of Christian colleges. Some of these colleges provide education in fields including the arts, humanities and sciences along with religious and theological subjects. Other colleges focus their programs on biblical studies and have a commitment to ministry.
  1. Appalachian Bible College

    • Appalachian Bible College's motto is "Because Life is For Service." The college has a five-point, core-value mission statement which emphasizes "primacy of the Bible," "passion for servanthood," "priority of the church," "pursuit of biblical worldview" and "practice of integrity." Located near Beckley, the college has between 250 and 300 students. Certificates and bachelor's degrees are offered in Bible study and theology. Master's degrees are offered in ministry, and the college has an online-learning option as well. ABC is accredited by the Association for Biblical Higher Education and is nondenominational.

    Bethany College

    • Bethany College was founded in 1840 and has been an affiliate of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) ever since. Among several of the college's objectives, the school strives to equip students with "the ability to recognize and to appreciate the ethical, moral, and spiritual dimensions of the human experience." Bethany offers a wide variety of subjects including various religious studies. These include "A History of Biblical Interpretation," "Studies in the Gospels" and "The Pentateuch."     Ohio Valley University

    • Ohio Valley University is "a faith-proclaiming, residential, liberal arts university located between Parkersburg and Vienna." The nondenominational school has a four-tiered mission statement. It includes "Christ is our chief cornerstone," "education that transforms," "community" and "commitment to excellence." OVU offers arts, humanities and the sciences as well as religious and theological subjects, with particular attention to Bible studies. OVU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Applications can be submitted online.

    Davis and Elkins College

    • Davis and Elkins College's mission is "To prepare and inspire students for success and for thoughtful engagement in the world." The college is located in Elkins and offers campus ministry services. Davis and Elkins, which is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA) provide arts, humanities and science programs as well as religious and Bible-based study programs. It is accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Application can be made online.
