How to Find Christian Colleges

Attending a Christian college can help you solidify your faith during your college years and beyond. According to Steve Henderson of Christian Consulting, Christian students who attend a non-Christian institution experience a drastic decline in religious engagement during their four years in attendance (Reference 3). Because values and friends acquired in college tend to remain with you throughout adulthood, attending a Christian college can help you build a foundation for your faith that will remain with you for years to come (Reference 3).

Instructions

    • 1

Make a list of attributes that are important to you in a Christian college. For example, you may decide that you're only interested in attending a college that offers a certain major or that you'd like to only attend a college with less than a thousand students because you prefer a more intimate campus atmosphere.

    • 2

Navigate to the Christian College Guide website's "Find a College" page (Resources).

    • 3

Choose a parameter to search, based on the list of attributes that you selected. The search parameters available include location, name, major, enrollment size, price and athletics. You can only choose one parameter to search for at one time.

    • 4

Enter a value for the search parameter you selected and click on the red "Search" button. For example, if you chose a major as your search parameter, select a major you're interested in from the list and click the "Search" button to bring up a list of Christian colleges that offer that major.

    • 5

Select a school from the list of search results to view a list of statistics related to that school, such as the male and female enrollment, the number of faculty and the annual tuition.

    • 6

Click on the tabs at the top of the page to view information on other statistics related to the school, including admissions information, cost of attendance, majors offered and activities available. To navigate to the school's website, click on the link located at the top of the page, directly underneath the college's name.

    • 7

Navigate to the Students Review website (Resources) to learn about the college from the perspective of students who attended. Find the college in U.S. News' College Database (Resources) to get a more in-depth view of student life, academic life and tuition costs, as well as to see how each college ranks in U.S. News' annual rankings of U.S. colleges.

    • 8

Write down and save the name of the school after completing your research if you feel it might be a good match for you. Return to the Christian College Guide website's "Find a College" page and research more schools that match the attributes you selected as being important to you.

    • 9

Visit the schools on your list once you have several that you think would be a good match for you. Talk to students and faculty at the school to get a sense for whether you think you'd fit in. Meet with admissions officers at the school to find out if your credentials are competitive enough to gain acceptance.
