Oberlin College, a private liberal arts college, was founded in 1833. Oberlin became one of the first institutions of higher education in the United States to admit black students in 1835, and the first to admit women in 1837. As of 2009, the school had about 2,850 students. The Oberlin College of Arts and Sciences offers 47 academic majors. Oberlin College also has a Conservatory of Music with degree programs designed to prepare students for careers as professional musicians and teachers. Oberlin College tied for 22nd in US News and World Report's 2010 ranking of liberal arts colleges.

Denison University is a private liberal arts college that was founded in 1831. As of 2009, the school had about 2,000 undergraduates. Denison students can work toward bachelor's degrees in 48 academic majors within five main divisions, including fine arts, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and interdisciplinary studies. The College of Wooster, a private liberal arts college, was founded in 1866. As of 2009, the school had about 1,800 students. The College of Wooster has over 40 academic departments, as well as pre-professional programs in engineering, health and law. All College of Wooster, students must take a first-year seminar and complete a one-year independent study project in the senior year. The College of Wooster tied for 68th in US News and World Report's 2010 ranking of liberal arts colleges.
