Ohio Colleges Offering Bachelor's Degrees

In 2010, US News and World Report ranked four of Ohio's colleges among the nation's top 70 liberal arts colleges. These colleges offer bachelor's degree programs in a wide variety of fields. Ohio's top colleges have well established academic traditions; many were founded in the 19th century.
  1. Oberlin College

    • Oberlin College was founded in 1833. This private liberal arts college has a reputation for progressive action; in 1835, it became one of the first American colleges to admit black students and in 1837, became the first American college to accept women. About 2,850 undergraduates attended the college as of 2009. Students can pursue bachelor's degrees in the colleges two divisions, the Conservatory of Music and the College of Arts and Science. Students in the College of Arts and Sciences can work toward Bachelor of Art (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees in 47 different fields. Students in the Conservatory of Music can work toward the professional Bachelor of Music (BM) degree. In 2010, US News and World Report ranked Oberlin 22nd among the nation's liberal arts colleges.

    Kenyon College

    • Kenyon College, a private liberal arts college, was founded in 1824 as Ohio's first private college. The college's 1,600 students can work toward Bachelor of Art (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees in 18 different academic departments and 13 interdisciplinary studies programs. The college requires every student to complete an independent project in their last year, known as the Senior Exercise. Students can also choose to enter the honors program within their chosen department. In 2010, US News and World Report ranked Kenyon 33rd among the nation's liberal arts colleges.

    Denison University

    • Denison University was founded in 1831. About 2,000 undergraduates attended this liberal arts college as of 2009. Denison's students can pursue Bachelor of Art or Bachelor of Science degrees in any of the college's 48 academic departments. The college's departments are organizes into four primary divisions, which include the fine arts, humanities, natural sciences and social sciences. Students can complete preprofessional programs in 12 areas. In 2010, US News and World Report ranked Denison 53rd among the nation's liberal arts colleges.
