Equine Colleges in Ohio

Students who enroll in Equine Studies majors in college have a good outlook on their career goals and are ready to delve into their love of horses, according to the Princeton Review. While part of the student's time is spent riding and caring for horses, students also learn nutrition, handling and managing day to day aspects of horses. Many states offer equine or equestrian studies majors through colleges and universities, and horse enthusiasts in the state of Ohio will find multiple possibilities.
  1. Otterbein College

    • Otterbein College offers three majors and one minor for equine enthusiasts: Equine Business and Facility Management, Equine Health Technology and Equine Prevet/Pregrad are available majors, or you can minor in Equine Studies. Students in the programs don't just learn by reading; they get to experience making shoes, trimming hooves and helping sick horses. For riding enthusiasts, the college also offers lessons and teams. The facility's equine center resides on 80 acres and offers 52 stalls where students can board their own horses. Student internships are also available. A number of required courses must be taken to graduate, including First Aid and Computer Concepts.

    Wilmington College

    • Students who enroll in the Equine Studies program at Wilmington College learn nutrition, biology, anatomy, physiology and health maintenance of horses. The program may completed by majoring in Agriculture with an Equine Studies minor. The on-site equestrian center has a 24-stall facility for the school's horses and student horse boarding. Also available are the Equestrian Team (competitive riding) and Equestrian Club (non-competitive). Coursework includes Fundamentals of Horsemanship, Recreational Horseback Riding, Practical Horse Feeding and Equine Performance Events.

    The University of Findlay

    • The University of Findlay's Equestrian Studies program offers students a selection of more than 400 horses, riding instruction five days a week, modern horse training, personal academic advising and the possibility of internships. A variety of degrees may be obtained, including the Bachelor of Science in Equine Business Management, Bachelor of Science in Western Riding and the Associate of Arts in English Riding. Students take courses in preventive medicine, stable management, judging, therapeutic riding and equine law. Work-study and job placement are facilitated for enrollees and graduates.
