Pastry Colleges in Ohio

Associate degrees in pastry arts and baking prepare student chefs for careers in the the food service industry. Career paths for college-trained pastry chefs include work in retail bakeries and in the large industrial kitchens of restaurants, hotels, corporations and universities. Executive pastry chefs, who oversee the pastry preparation and delivery, usually have college training.

The accrediting body for pastry and baking college programs (including those listed below) is the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation Accrediting Commission (ACFEFAC.) The ACFEFAC assures that culinary programs meet minimum standards with regards to faculty, curriculum and student services.
  1. Midwest Culinary Institute

    • The Midwest Culinary Institute in Cincinnati, in partnership with Cincinnati State University, offers an Associate of Arts in Business (AAB) degree in Pastry Arts and in Culinary Arts. Core business classes are included in the curriculum for students to learn management skills. A bachelor's degree in culinary arts is also available.

    Columbus State Community College

    • Columbus State Community College has an AAS (Associate of Applied Science) program in Food Service/Restaurant Management with a Baking and Pastry Arts track. Students are trained to prepare and produce pies, cakes, breads, and other baked goods in a number of environments, such as large commercial bakeries, restaurants and hotels. Curriculum includes classes, lab experience, and industry work experience. A Baking Certificate is also available.

      The college also offers an AAS degree program in Chef Apprenticeship.

    Cuyahoga Community College

    • Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland offers a?certificate program in Professional Baking. It includes all of the educational requirements for certification through the executive pastry chef level of certification by the American Culinary Federation, and can apply towards an AAB degree in Hospitality Management with a concentration in Culinary Art. Student must complete practicum. Cuyahoga also offers Professional Chef and Professional Cook certificates.

    Hocking Technical College

    • Hocking Technical College, located in Nelsonville, OH, has an AAB degree program in Baking and Pastry. Student chefs learn the basics of baking and pastry production in the working kitchens of The Inn at Hocking College and Rhapsody, the college-owned hotel and restaurant. Program emphasis is hands-on training. ?A certificate in Baking and Pastry is also available.

    Zane State College

    • The Culinary Arts business program trains students to enter the food industry as mid-management. Students are taught baking, along with food preparation, menu and facility planning, nutrition, sanitation and management. Hands-on kitchen lab training and classroom coursework is included.
