Maumee, Ohio Colleges

Located in Lucas County, the suburban area of Maumee, Ohio is just 10 miles southeast of Toledo. The town is home to a small number of private colleges. Granting both undergraduate and graduate degrees, these schools prepare students for entry into some of the fields the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services predicts will be among the fastest growing in the greater Toledo area from 2006 through 2016, such as computer science, finance and education.

    • Founded in 1926, Stautzenberger College is a privately owned, nonsectarian institution with its main campus in Maumee. The college offers associate degrees and certificates in fields like banking, investment and finance; nursing; information technology; veterinary technology; medical assisting; court reporting and paralegal studies. Classes are held during morning and evening hours, and most programs at the school are completable with two years of full-time study or less. A number of courses are available online. The college participates in federal and state loan and grant, work-study and scholarship financial aid programs. The career service department helps students write resumes, prepare interviews and research job openings.

    Heidelberg University

    • The United Church of Christ founded Heidelberg University in 1850 in the town of Tiffin, and in 1989, the school opened a branch location in Maumee known as the Arrowhead Park branch campus. The college offers accelerated degree programs that allow students to complete all necessary course requirements by attending courses part-time during evening hours only. Among the degree programs offered at the Arrowhead Park campus are baccalaureate degrees in accounting, business administration and psychology and master's degrees in business administration, counseling and education. The branch has a computer lab on site for student use. Approximately 98 percent of all students at Heidelberg receive some type of financial aid, reports the "2009 Barron's Profiles of American Colleges."

    ITT Technical Institute

    • ITT Technial Institute is a nationwide, for-profit institution with a branch in Maumee. The college offers baccalaureate degrees in information systems, electronics and communication engineering technology, construction management, business administration and criminal justice. Associate degree programs include paralegal studies, visual communications, drafting and design, computer network systems and software development. Classes are held during daytime, afternoon and evening hours. Online courses are also available. Qualified students can benefit from federal loans and grants and institutional scholarships while studying at ITT Technical Institute. The college provides job placement assistance for all students.
