Junior Colleges in Tennessee

The Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) is an institution dedicated to educating Tennessee and offers coursework in 90 of the state's 95 counties. Overseeing the affairs of 13 community colleges and 26 technical schools, the TBR offers students a wealth of information to aid in the decision making process of finding the right junior college. From workforce training to applied science associate's degrees and other areas of study, each college has its own strength making it possible for a diverse student body to find a place of higher learning appropriate for its various career goals.
  1. Nashville State Community College

    • Since its founding in 1970, Nashville State Community College (NSCC) has expanded its areas of study and campuses to include satellites in Waverly, Cookeville and Dickinson. It offers more than 80 educational paths including a growing culinary arts program, pre-med programs, educational degrees and technical certificates.

    Southwest Tennessee Community College

    • Southwest Tennessee Community College is the result of the 2000 merge of Shelby State Community College and the State Technical Institute at Memphis. Affordable tuition, small class sizes and a diverse range of associate and technical programs are a few highlights of this Tennessee junior college. Basketball, baseball, softball and cheerleading programs are open to athletes, and several scholarships and financial aid packages are available.

    Chattanooga State Community College

    • Since opening in 1965, Chattanooga State Community College (CSCC) has become vital in training Tennessee's workforce. Programs such as engineering technology, computer sciences, health sciences and automotive sciences---it was selected in 2009 to manage Volkswagen's North American assembly plant in Chattanooga---help ensure that this junior college is community-centered. It also offers sports programs, education in the fine arts and satellite campuses in three counties.

    Volunteer State Community College

      Volunteer State Community College, Vol State, offers students more than 70 degree areas in five overarching fields of study, including humanities, social sciences and math. It provides programs for continuing education and has satellite programs of study throughout 12 counties. Since opening in 1971, Vol State has expanded its size, curriculum, student body and staff each academic year. It is a public, two-year Tennessee junior college.
