Ultrasound technicians operate diagnostic-imaging machinery in hospitals, radiology facilities and other health care settings. Also known as diagnostic medical sonographers, these technicians assist in the diagnosis of ailments through various techniques including radiography, ultrasounds and radio waves. This program is five semesters long and takes about two years to complete. Students that graduate from this program are awarded an associate in science degree in diagnostic medical sonography. Some of the classes offered in the program include introduction to sonography, abdominal sonography, obstetrical and gynecological sonography, introduction to vascular ultrasound and some general education courses as well. These classes are taught in classroom and lab settings, and students must also complete a clinical internship.
