Ultrasound Technician Programs in Los Angeles

The job responsibilities of an ultrasound technician can vary, depending on the type of facility she works at. Among the main tasks of an ultrasound technician is the operation of sonographic equipment and the reporting of diagnostic examination results to physicians. According to Salary.com, in 2009 the median annual salary for ultrasound technicians was $63,018.

The city of Los Angeles is home to several schools that offer ultrasound technician (commonly referred to as diagnostic medical sonography) programs. In order to be accepted into a diagnostic medical sonography program, you typically need to have a high school diploma or equivalent, be at least 17 years old and meet the specific requirements of the school that you're applying to.

WCUI offers a fully accredited certificate program in diagnostic medical sonography, which will prepare you to take the ARDMS national certification exam. In this program, you'll gain knowledge in various aspects of diagnostic sonography, including imaging, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, radiology and an introduction to imaging science and vascular ultrasound. Students are also expected to complete an internship at an area clinical facility. Classes are taught in classrooms, labs and clinical settings.
