GateWay Community College is located on the east side of Phoenix. This school offers two options for students who wish to study diagnostic medical sonography: an associate degree in applied science or a certificate of completion. The program is directed towards practicing health care professionals, such as respiratory therapists, registered nurses or radiologic technicians, who are interested in specializing in ultrasound technology. Students learn about ultrasound imaging for a variety of areas of the body, including the heart, brain and abdomen. A clinical practicum requires students to participate in ultrasound procedures under the supervision of an instructor or certified professional.
