  1. Chippewa Valley Technical College

    • Located in Eau Claire in western Wisconsin, this school offers a two-year general Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program, culminating in an associate's degree. As a prerequisite, students must have completed a Basic Nursing Assistant class or be a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Advanced placement is possible for students with proper credentials. This program includes a seven-month internship in the second year.

    Northeast Wisconsin Technical College

    • This school offers an associate's degree DMS program at its Green Bay campus, with training in abdominal and vascular ultrasound. The program lasts five semesters (including one summer semester) and is open to high school graduates with minimum grade and class requirements and ACT scores. Clinical internships are included in the second year of the program.

    Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center

    • Through its School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, this facility offers a 19-month in-hospital training certificate program in DMS. Applicants must be enrolled in or graduates of an allied health education program, be certified (or scheduled to be) in a health care profession, or must have a bachelor's degree in a related field accompanied by direct patient care experience. Clinical experience is included in the program.

    University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

    • Through its College of Health Sciences, this university offers one of the few bachelor's degree programs in DMS available in the country. The program includes two years of general and pre-clinical studies, followed by relocation to the UW Health Center in Madison for two years of clinical experience. Students can choose between general sonography or echocaridography (heart-related ultrasound). High school graduates may enter the program at the pre-clinical level, but must meet certain requirements before advancing into the clinical stage.
