Salt Lake Community College provides students with the opportunity to obtain a professional certificate in cabinet making. Training at SLCC takes place in the college's workshop. Students with no prior training can acquire their certificate in a single academic year through SLCC's hands-on approach to learning. The program covers fundamental areas of cabinet making such as joining and materials. Additionally, the college trains students in production methods, shop management, design (including training in computer-aided drafting and design), estimating, materials ordering and safety procedures. Students should expect to spend approximately $700 to $1,000 on their school projects throughout the course of their studies, as of 2010. The college maintains relationships with area shops interested in employing graduates.

Bates Technical College offers campuses at three locations in Tacoma, Washington. Bates teaches students how to craft custom cabinetry, beginning with drawing plans. The course also includes education in the proper operation of power tools like jointers, planers, CNC routers, wide belt sanders and sliding table saws. Students will learn how to select the appropriate tool for the job as well as how to properly maintain their tools. Bates Technical College offers students the opportunity to earn an Associate of Technology degree (typically completed within 22 months) or a competency certificate (generally finished within a year-and-a-half). Those with prior experience in the field or related professions can attend customized education programs.
