While first and foremost a highly selective military academy dedicated to training the next generation of Air Force officers, the Air Force Academy is ranked in the top four aeronautical engineering schools in the United States by US News and World Report. Admission is selective; only about 18 percent of applicants get in, and a prospective student should not think that study is all he'll do. The Academy believes in physical fitness, academic excellence and military discipline. If you're prepared to undergo this rigorous lifestyle, you can rest assured that your aeronautical engineering training will be the best the United States government can buy.

Another top aeronautical engineering school is the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. As a military academy and university, expect to find the same stringent lifestyle as the Air Force Academy on this campus also. Even more selective, with an admission rate of about 14 percent, the Naval Academy, like the other military academies, enjoys a pipeline into the federal military budget, which ensures the aeronautical engineering program is top notch because our nation's defense depends upon it.
