Schools That Offer Bachelors Degrees in Physical Therapy

Physical therapists are health care professionals who work with injured individuals suffering from strains, fractures and broken bones, among other medical conditions. Employment in the field of physical therapy is projected to continue a 10-year rise of 30 percent through 2018, much faster than that of other fields, according to the United States Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics. The median salary for physical therapists, as of 2008, was $72,790 per year. Salaries in 2008 ranged from $50,350 to $104,350. To gain a position as a physical therapist requires specialized education; students who complete pre-physical therapy bachelor's degrees are eligible to apply to physical therapy master's and doctorate programs at graduate schools across the country.

    • The College of Saint Benedict at Saint John's University offers a pre-physical therapy bachelor's degree in its sports medicine program. Coursework includes principles of athletic training, anatomy and physiology for sports medicine, motor learning, exercise physiology, advanced injury assessment and techniques in sports medicine. Students are eligible for internships with the United States Olympic Committee, where they live at Olympic Training Centers and eat at the athletes' dining hall. Student resources include an exercise laboratory, complete with Lange skinfold calipers, skeletons, goniometers, standiometer, blood pressure cuffs and Dartfish motion analysis software.

    Baldwin Wallace College

    • Earn a pre-physical therapy bachelor's degree at Baldwin Wallace College, including classes such as therapeutic modalities, human anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, essentials of athletic training, chemistry, principles of biology and fitness assessment. Internship opportunities are available at nearby nursing homes, hospitals and clinics; other resources include an athletic training facility and workout areas. Baldwin offers a partnership with Chatham College's physical therapy graduate program and the University of St. Augustine physical therapy post baccalaureate program.

    Boise State University

    • The Boise State University pre-physical therapy program includes coursework in exercise physiology, medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology, concepts of biology, introduction to sociology, precalculus and abnormal psychology. Students are also required to take general education classes, such as fundamentals of speech communication, English composition and general psychology. Boise State advisers help pre-physical therapy students plan their electives and schedules to satisfy the requirements for a physical therapy graduate program.
