Universities in Sydney That Offer Aeronautical Engineering

Aeronautical Engineering, also called Aerospace Engineering, involves the study of engineering in relation to items used to explore space or the atmosphere. In Australia's most popoulous city, Sydney, you can pursue this discipline at several different universities.
  1. The University of Sydney

    • The University of Sydney offers two options in its Aeronautical Engineering program.

The University of Sydney's School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering (AMME) offers an undergraduate program in Aeronautical Engineering. Programs begin yearly in February and July, which are the first and second semesters, respectively. Courses include Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace Technology, Flight Mechanics, Aerospace Management, and Space Engineering, depending on the focus. The university, founded 160 years ago, is Australia's oldest. More than 47,000 students were enrolled in 2009, with just under 3,000 faculty members.

The University of New South Wales offers a bachelor's degree in technology, with a focus on Aeronautical Engineering. The degree requires three years of study, or 18 months for students who already hold a degree in technology. Courses during the first year include: Statistics, Introduction to Flight, and Engineering Chemistry. Second- and Third-year courses include: Thermofluids, Aircraft Performance & Stability, Gas Turbine, and Engineering Management. The UNSW is over 60 years old, and provides higher education to just under 40,000 students. Undergraduates may choose from over 300 programs, while graduate students may choose from 600. The first semester generally begins in the spring, with the second semester beginning in July. Students enrolled in the Australian Defense Force Academy also take certain courses on the UNSW campus, including, Business, Science, Technology, and Engineering.

    University of Technology Sydney

    • Singapore serves as the location of the of UTS's joint program.

The University of Technology, Sydney, offers a bachelor's degree in Aerospace Operations. The program is conducted in conjunction with the Singapore Institute of Aerospace Engineers, and was established in 2000. The program requires that potential students hold a diploma in Polytechnic Engineering. Students with this degree may, depending on evaluation, be awarded 96 out of the 144 credits required for the program at UTS. The program is generally completed part-time, within two years. The University of Technology Sydney accepts applicants twice a year, in fall for spring admission and vice versa. The university is just more than 20 years old, and was originally known as the New South Wales School of Technology. In 2009, just under 30,000 students were enrolled, with approximately 2,682 faculty members. Of Australian students attending the school, more than 80 percent founds jobs within three months of graduating.
