Arkansas Aviation Colleges

Arkansas draws tourists every year, who come to the state to enjoy its outdoor beauty and varied attractions. During a single visit to the state, you can dig for diamonds, enjoy live theater or tour one of the state's many fine art galleries. The opportunities in Arkansas aren't limited to recreational attractions alone. For years, the state has been teaching the pilots, mechanics and engineers of tomorrow with Arkansas aviation colleges.
  1. Arkansas Northeastern College

    • The Blytheville campus of Arkansas Northeastern College offers several aeronautics and aviation courses, for those students who find themselves reaching for the clouds.

      Receive an Associate of Applied Science degree in aviation maintenance to become qualified as an airframe and powerplant mechanic. Upon course completion, students are eligible to take the FAA (Federal Aviation Agency) exam for Airframe & Powerplant Mechanics.

      Students in the aviation program will attend classes 40 hours a week, a mixture of laboratory and lecture hall courses. Consistent attendance is required for those students who wish to make it through the course.

    Henderson State University

    • Henderson State University (HSU) boasts an entire department of aviation for students who wish to pursue this career field. Students will receive a Bachelor of Science in Aviation degree after completing a 4-year course at HSU. Fifteen different aircraft are on the premises for learning and flight instruction.

      HSU offers several different courses, so aviation students will chose their field of expertise. Specific coursework is available in several specialties: professional pilot, aviation management and aircraft maintenance management. Students may also choose to minor in aviation while they pursue a related major degree course.

      Students in the HSU aviation program will enjoy flight training at the Arkadelphia Municipal Airport. Aircraft owned by HSU include Maule MXT-7, Cessna 172RG, Piper Twin Comanche PA-30 and an American Champion Citabria. Flight training is offered to students at an additional cost (in excess of tuition).

    Northwest Arkansas Community College

    • Northwest Arkansas Community College (NWACC) works with Drake Aviation Academy to provide pilot training to aviation students. Students taking the pilot training course will receive a private pilot's license, instrument training and a commercial pilot's license upon completion.

      The Associate of Science program may be transferred to a 4-year bachelor's degree course at another educational institution. Airframe and powerplant certification may still be obtained by students pursing their AS degree. It's also possible to obtain an Associate of Applied Science degree through NWACC.
