Pastry Chef Culinary Programs

While pastry and baking training are normally included as part of culinary arts degree programs, programs that focus solely on the art of creating baked goods and pastries can be found at community colleges and technical schools across the country. Pastry chef programs normally take up to two years to complete.
  1. Art Institute of Atlanta

    • At Art Institute of Atlanta, students interested in careers in baking and patisserie can matriculate into the school's Culinary Arts diploma program with a Baking & Pastry concentration. This yearlong program features a comprehensive curriculum in fundamental and advanced baking skills. Classes such as Baking and Fundamentals of Classical Techniques are just a few of the required courses a part of the diploma program, in addition to hospitality management and career-skills related courses. While the Art Institute of Atlanta does offer associate's and bachelor's degrees, the diploma program is designed as supplementary for students who already have culinary experience.

    California Culinary Academy

    • The California Culinary Academy hosts the well-known Le Cordon Bleu program. In addition to programs in Culinary Arts and Hospitality & Restaurant Management, the academy also features a Certificate in Le Cordon Bleu Patisserie and Baking. With classes led by chef instructors, students are trained in various patisserie and baking skills, including European pastry production and chocolate and sugar showpiece design. Students gain additional practical experience by working at on-campus student-run restaurants. Financial aid and scholarship opportunities are available for qualified students.

    Columbus State Community College

    • The Columbus State Community College has been serving area students since 1963. Today, the community college features several courses of study within their Hospitality Management division, including the Baking and Pastry Arts track within the Food Service/Restaurant Management major. Students enrolled in the Baking and Pastry Arts track prepare for careers in various baking environments. Courses such as Baking Principles, Advanced Yeast & Quick Breads and Food Production are included in the six-quarter program, in addition to general education courses like Natural Science and Beginning Composition. The shorter Baking Certificate program can be completed in one year and does not include required general education coursework.
