Azusa Pacific University is a private, interdenominational Christian college with more than 8,500 undergraduate and graduate students at its 60-acre campus in Azusa, California, 26 miles from Los Angeles. The college offers a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology with a CLC-approved concentration in child life. Among the courses required for the program are children's literature, biology, child and adolescent psychology, health psychology, counseling, recreation and psychosocial interventions and stress and coping. A clinical internship is required for the major. To graduate, students must complete six courses in Biblical studies and at least 120 hours of Christian community service or missions work. Federal and state financial aid and institutional scholarships are available for eligible students.

Located in Muncie, Indiana, Ball State University is a public college approximately 55 miles from Indianapolis. Among the courses of study available to more than 16,800 undergraduate students is a CLC-approved Bachelor of Science program in child life. Students in the program complete classes in infant and toddler development, life science, medical terminology, social work, family relations, preschool teaching, research methods and parenting. A one-semester, full-time internship is necessary for graduation. Students may also study abroad in more than 20 different countries. Approximately 90 percent of freshmen and 83 percent of continuing students receive some type of financial aid. The college also allows students to design their own master's degree program in child life, but the graduate-level degree does not carry CLC-accrediation.

Established in 1885, Springfield College is a private, nonsectarian institution named after the suburban town where the school is situated, approximately 60 miles north of Hartford, Connecticut. The college's recreation management baccalaureate program features a CLC-approved concentration in child life. Required courses include leadership, public relations, anatomy and physiology, human development, abnormal psychology, community-based recreation services, child life issues and techniques for working with hospitalized children. A, full-time, one-semester internship is required for graduation. Federal and state financial aid, veteran's benefits and institutional scholarships are offered for qualified students. CLS also approves the college's Master of Science in therapeutic recreation management. In 2010, U.S. News and World Report ranked the graduate school offerings at Springield College 62nd among all universities in the northern United States that offer master's degrees.
