WASC Accredited Colleges & Trade Schools in California

The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) is one of six regional accrediting associations in the U.S. The association covers institutions in California, Hawaii and the Pacific basin. WASC-accredited California schools must meet criteria dictating a high level of curriculum, student support, administrative policies and guidelines. In California, there are 151 WASC-accredited universities and colleges and 136 WASC-accredited colleges and technical schools, according to WASC.
  1. University of California

    • University of California has campuses in Berkeley, Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles, Merced, Riverside, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz. All are WASC-accredited. The University of California-Davis is the northernmost campus and has received millions of dollars in state and federal funding to study the health effects of hazardous chemicals. It has the largest undergraduate engineering enrollments in the University of California system. The University of California, San Diego, the southernmost campus, holds the largest oceanography library and is ranked as the seventh best public university in the nation by "U.S. News & World Report."

    The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandisin

    • All of the four campuses of the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising of California are WASC-accredited. There are campuses in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco and in Irvine. The school prepares students for careers in the fashion, visual arts, interior design and entertainment industries. Industry professionals serve on the faculty and guide the curriculum. Some accomplished alumni include Althea Lim, who works for Estee Lauder and Nick Verreos of Bravo's "Project Runway."

    Allan Hancock College

    • Located in Santa Maria, near California's central coast, Allan Hancock College offers 100 degrees and certificates in more than 60 different fields of study. Community college students transferring to four-year California universities are given highest priority. The college has special admission agreements with several California universities, including UC-Davis, UC-Santa Barbara and California State University-Fullerton. Seventy-eight of Hancock students applying to California Polytechnic State University in Fall 2006 were accepted. The school also is known for its drama program and professional theatre program. Alumni include Tony-award nominee Boyd Gaines.
