Top Accounting Doctoral Programs

The top doctoral accounting programs are located at some of the best graduate business schools in the nation. U.S. News and World Report ranked the top accounting programs in the nation in 2010. Three schools emerged as the clear leaders among all business programs nationwide. Two of the programs are perennial top-five graduate schools for the study of business in a variety of disciplines, while the top-rated program for the field of accounting is mainly recognized for its contributions in accounting (as opposed to other major business disciplines).
  1. University of Chicago

    • The doctorate program in accounting at the University of Chicago was ranked third by U.S. News and World Report in 2010, replacing the University of Illinois at the No. 3 position from the previous year. The University's Booth School of Business is ranked among the top business schools in the nation every year. The doctorate program emphasizes three broad areas of research: auditing research, capital markets research and taxation research. Students at the University of Chicago benefit from generous stipends in addition to tuition waivers upon acceptance to the program. As an incentive for students to enter the accounting program at the Booth School, doctoral accounting students receive an additional $5,000 per year stipend supplement. Students are also furnished with a laptop for the duration of the program.
