Low Residency Doctoral Programs

Low Residency Doctoral programs are generally distance programs that are completed on a year-round basis, rather than through the two semester academic year. The programs require only short term on-campus residencies that vary in length between several days to three or four weeks each year. Students remain in contact with professors and other faculty members through telephone, teleconferencing, Internet and e-mail.

    • Lesley University offers a Ph.D. program in Expressive Therapies. It is a low residency doctoral program that requires only three-week summer intensive residencies three times throughout. The 45 credit curriculum utilizes a variety of learning technologies, including email and videoconferencing, to allow doctoral candidates to communicate with supervisors and other faculty. The program involves several research and independent study courses to allow doctoral candidates to pursue topics that are specific to their objectives within the program. The prerequisites for consideration consist of a Master's degree, eligibility for certification in at least one modality of expressive therapies, successful completion of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and a minimum of three to five years of professional practice in the field.
