These schools are also listed as top accounting schools because they offer advanced concentrations and degrees like the Ph.D. in the accounting field. They also offer the opportunity for interdisciplinary studies and research. The cost of attending these schools varies by institution type (private v. public) and according to the student's state of residence.       In the field of accounting, the No. 1-ranked accounting school in the U.S. is the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas (UT). The program was listed as the top program by U.S. News in both 2009 and 2010. The MBA program at UT offers accounting as a specialization, but UT also offers accounting as a separate degree program. Students can pursue a Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) or a Ph.D. Within the MBA program, UT offers two primary concentrations for accounting majors: investment banking and corporations. Courses include financial statement analysis, strategic controls, finance law, fraud examination and advanced corporate finance.

    • The No. 2-ranked accounting program in the U.S. News & World Report rankings for 2010 is the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. The Wharton program was also rated second in 2009. The Wharton School offers numerous opportunities to pursue joint-degrees and interdisciplinary research. In addition to the MBA concentration in accounting, students can pursue degrees in law, international studies and even additional concentrations within the MBA program such as finance. Specific areas of interest within the accounting program include statistics and econometrics, accounting theory and research, empirical research in accounting, economics and finance.

    • The No. 3-ranked accounting program for 2010 in U.S. News & World Report is the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago (UC). Like the Penn program, the University of Chicago has been ranked atop many different publications' lists as the top business school in the world at various times throughout the last two decades. The UC program replaced the University of Illinois as the No. 3 accounting program on the 2010 list. Areas of emphasis within the accounting program include taxation, auditing and capital markets.
