A List of Pharmacy Schools

Over 100 universities in the U.S. offer accredited pharmacy education programs. The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) accredits all of the programs. Pharmacy schools offer a wide range of opportunities for students. Each school of pharmacy will provide different degree programs, curriculums and research opportunities. The most popular degree program is the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program, which allows graduates to practice pharmacy. It is available at the majority of pharmacy schools.
  1. University of California -- San Francisco

    • Founded in 1872, the first pharmacy in the West was at the University of California, San Francisco. The School of Pharmacy is also one of the top ranking pharmacy schools in the nation. The Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program consists of a 4-year course of study that educates students to be innovative leaders in pharmacy practice and policy. Aside from the core class requirements, students also select an emphasis in one of the following pathways: pharmaceutical care, pharmaceutical sciences or pharmaceutical health policy and management. The School of Pharmacy also offers dual degree and PhD degree programs.

    University of North Carolina

    • The Eshelman School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina is renown for being an innovative leader in pharmacy care, education and research. Students have the opportunity to select from various degree programs to suit their career path. The School of Pharmacy offers programs to earn a PharmD (Doctor of Pharmacy), a PhD in pharmaceutical sciences or a Master of Science in health system pharmacy. Students at the School of Pharmacy have learning opportunities with the UNC Health System and Research Triangle Park, which is an international center for pharmaceutical research and development. The University of North Carolina also offers a range of post-professional and continuing education programs.

    University of Minnesota

    • The College of Pharmacy at the University of Minnesota is the only pharmacy school in the state that offers the PharmD (Doctor of Pharmacy), Ph.D. and Master's pharmacy degree programs. The programs are available at the Twin Cities and Duluth campuses. U.S. News and World Report ranks the College's PharmD program among the top three programs in the country. Students pursuing their Ph.D. can choose from programs including pharmaceutics, medicinal chemistry, experimental and clinical pharmacy as well as social and administrative pharmacy. The University of Minnesota also offers students an abundance of research and fellowship opportunities.

    University of Texas -- Austin

    • Located on the Austin campus, the College of Pharmacy at the University of Texas offers students the opportunity to earn a PharmD (Doctor of Pharmacy). Both the classroom and laboratory portions of the program emphasize an integrated approach to drug therapy management. The capstone of the program consists of a series of seven internship rotations. The College of Pharmacy also offers PhD and Master level programs including a dual PharmD/PhD degree program.

    Ohio State University

    • Since its establishment in 1885, the Ohio State University College of Pharmacy has been a leader in pharmacy education. The College of Pharmacy consistently ranks among the top pharmacy schools in the country. Students of the college have a wide range of degree options including a Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Master of Science in Health-System Pharmacy Administration, Doctor of Pharmacy, along with various PhD programs. The College of Pharmacy offers several combined degree programs. Students are also able to participate it a variety of specialized residencies as well as post-doctoral research and fellowships programs.
