List of Pharmacy Schools in California

To become a pharmacist in the state of California, you must have a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and be a California resident. Once you get your degree, you must pass two exams. The first is the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination given by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy. The second exam is the California Pharmacist Jurisprudence Exam. There are several universities offering a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in the state of California.

    • The University of Southern California School of Pharmacy offers a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. This is a four-year program and students must receive at least a C in all required courses and have a 3.0 grade point average to successfully complete the program. To be admitted to the program, students must have a bachelor's degree and complete the necessary prerequisites including calculus, chemistry, microbiology and physics.

    Loma Linda University

    • Loma Linda University School of Pharmacy offers a four-year Pharm.D. program. A bachelor's degree is not required for admission into the program, but it is highly recommended. Prerequisite courses for admission include biology, chemistry, speech and economics. While members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which owns the school, are given preference in the admissions process, the program is open to any student meeting the prerequisites.

    University of California, San Diego

    • University of California, San Diego, offers a four-year Pharm.D. program. The school also offers two joint-degree programs: a B.S in chemistry/Pharm.D and a Pharm.D/Ph.D. program. In order to be eligible for admission, the student must be a United States citizen or permanent resident, have bachelor's degree and complete the prerequisite courses for the program. These courses include biology, chemistry, geometry and economics.

    University of the Pacific

    • University of the Pacific offers a four-year Doctor of Pharmacy degree with an emphasis on hands-on learning through clinical rotation and community outreach activities. Applicants must have completed 64 hours of undergraduate coursework. Prerequisite courses include subjects such as calculus, chemistry, biology, English composition, economics and psychology. The school also offers two joint degrees: Pharm.D./PhD and Pharm.D./MBA.
