Automotive Design Engineering Schools

Automotive design, a sub-field of mechanical engineering, uses computer-based and physical mediums for the design of the exterior and interior of automobiles. Successful candidates in the field possess creativity combined with a grasp of mathematics and scientific concepts. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, engineers earn among the highest starting salaries when compared with other bachelor´s degree-holders nationwide. Mechanical engineers earned a median annual entry-level salary of $58,766 in 2009.
  1. Arizona State University

    • The bachelor´s degree program in Mechanical/Automotive Engineering Technology at Arizona State University prepares students for a career in automotive engineering with a curriculum that includes foundation courses in physics, statistics, mathematics and chemistry. Design-specific courses in the core degree plan include introductory and advanced levels in machine design, computer-aided design and solid molding, measurements and testing and the manufacturing process. Students receive hands-on experience in mechanics materials laboratory courses and two capstone projects. Students may select two courses per semester in the final three terms in automotive electives with a concentration in mechanical or aeronautical design.
