Miami Dade College, School of Computer & Engineering Technologies, offers hands-on training in engineering skills, utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and expert instruction. The associate in science degree in Drafting & Design Technology offers, as major course requirements, training in engineering graphics, engineering measurement and computations, technical drawing, structural drafting, tool and machine design drafting, among others. Miami Dade receives its accreditation from the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Located in New York state, Rochester Institute of Technology offers an associate of applied science degree in Computer-Aided Drafting Technology. The program starts off with Engineering Fundamentals, CAD Applications in Engineering Technology, Construction CAD, Physics, Integrated Algebra and much more. In the following two years, training proceeds on to Construction CAD II and III, Construction Materials and Methods I and II and Principals of Structural Systems. It also delves into construction regulations. In the third year, training includes Deaf Cultural Studies/ASL, Presentation Graphics and more. This training requires a strong mathematics background, preferably a minimum of three years of high school mathematics, as a prerequisite. Qualified students also possess high reading scores and at least three years of high school science. Rochester's Computer Engineering program, of which Computer-Aided Drafting is a part, is fully accredited by ABET, Inc. -- the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
Boston's Wentworth Institute of Technology's bachelor of science degree program in Industrial Design takes students through basic and advanced drawing and design, computer graphics, English and design history. Later comes physics, social science, technical drawing, presentation techniques and other key courses. In the sophomore year students involve themselves in the study of interiors, then in the junior year courses such as Behavioral Aspects of Design and Construction Documents are covered. Eventually, students learn about regulatory requirements and the world of work. In the spring semester of the junior year, as well as the fall semester of the senior year, students participate in co-op work. Wentworth receives its accreditation from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc.
Southern Utah University's bachelor's degree in CAD/CAM Engineering Technology provides technical, design and academic skills for those interested in this subject. CAD and CAM stand for Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing. This program emphasizes 3D modeling and provides state-of-the art equipment to keep up with evolving technological developments. An industry advisory board provides input regarding these developments to the University, and updates to the curriculum are made accordingly. Graduates of this program find work in mechanical, architectural and civil design. Southern Utah University receives accreditation from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.
