Military Specialty Schools

There are a variety of types of military specialty schools. There are military schools for troubled teens, prep schools and federal service academies. The crème of the crop of the military specialty schools are the federal service academies. There are four federal service military academies in the United States. Federal service academies are four-year colleges operated by the military services. Upon graduation, there is a commitment to serve on active-duty as a commissioned officer. Although sometimes referred to as a fifth federal service academy, the United States Merchant Marine Academy is actually run by the U.S. Department of Transportation rather than a branch of the U.S. military service.
