Military Schools for Bad Girls

Troubled teens sometimes find themselves needing more structure and boundaries to get their lives back on track. Though traditionally an option for troubled boys, many military schools now accept girls. According to the Military Schools for Girls website, a private military school could be a positive alternative to more conventional schooling if you have a troubled teenage girl. Military school can "reshape" a defiant teen and help her cultivate respectfulness and a willingness to work toward success.

    Oak Ridge Military Academy

    • Oak Ridge opened its doors to girls in the mid-19th century, and girls continued as students into the early part of the 20th century. Oak Ridge became a boys military academy in 1917, as an adjunct of the U.S. War Department. Girls were once again admitted in 1971 and have continued to the present day at the campus just outside of Greensboro, North Carolina. The school's program of rigorous physical and academic standards in combination with the attention of each cadet's adult mentor have proven to be successful in turning around the lives of troubled teenage girls.
