Architecture Schools in Florida

Florida is home to several quality schools of architecture. These schools offer architecture students multiple degree choices and allow them pursue new and innovative areas of research within, or related to, the field of architecture. Most of them also offer degrees at all levels from the bachelor's degree through a doctorate in the field.
  1. University of South Florida

    • The University of South Florida's (USF) School of Architecture and Community provides a graduate-level program that is accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). The primary degree program offered by the school is the Master of Architecture (MArch), a degree that requires 51 credit hours for students with an undergraduate degree in the field of architecture.

      Students without a degree in the field may apply for admission as well, but must complete a 105 credit hour program in order to graduate with the degree. Areas of study covered by the program include advanced design, design development, introduction to community and urban design and professional architectural practice.

    Florida A&M University

    • A second option among Florida architectural schools is the program offered by Florida A&M University (FAMU).

      The School of Architecture at FAMU offers a wider variety of degree programs than USF. Students have the option of pursuing a Bachelor of Science (BS) in architectural studies or a Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) at the undergraduate level. Master's level degrees include the MArch, MS Arch (non-professional Master of Science in architectural studies) and the MLA (Master of Landscape Architecture).

      FAMU is home to the Institute for Building Sciences, a research institute devoted to scholarly studies in the field of architecture.

    University of Florida

    • The University of Florida's (UF) School of Architecture offers one of the most extensive programs in the field within the state. Degrees offered include bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. Bachelor's degrees include a Bachelor of Design (BDes), and master's level degrees include a two year MArch and a four-year MArch program along with MS degrees in architectural studies, pedagogy and acoustics.

      The university's doctorate in the field is the PhD. UF also offers students numerous opportunities to study architecture abroad in areas such as East Asia, Italy and even the Caribbean. Ongoing research at UF includes studies in areas such as the development of regional architectural archetypes, integrative land use, research and design for migrant communities, spatial language and architectural acoustics.
