Schools of Planning & Architecture

Architects are responsible for planning and designing the places where people work, live, eat, shop and worship. Schools of planning and architecture provide students with a variety of study options within the industry so that these students are prepared to begin their careers. Employment is expected to grow for architects between 2008 and 2018 by 16 percent according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

    • The School of Architecture and Planning at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) offers 16 architecture program options and 18 planning program options. The architecture and planning programs include undergraduate degrees, graduate degrees, non-degree programs and major research programs. The architecture topics include architecture, design and computation, the history and theory of art and urban design. The planning topics include urban studies and planning, city planning, urban information systems and environmental policy and planning.

    University at Buffalo

    • The School of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Buffalo offers a Bachelor of Science in architecture, a minor in architecture, a Bachelor of Arts in environmental design and a minor option in environmental design as the undergraduate program options. At the graduate level, students may pursue a master's degree in urban planning, a dual master's degree in architecture and urban planning, a dual law and master's degree in urban planning, a master's degree in architecture and dual degree programs in architecture and business administration, fine arts and urban planning.

    Catholic University of America

    • The School of Architecture and Planning at the Catholic University of America offers one undergraduate degree program in architecture that leads to a Bachelor of Science degree. Two certificate programs are offered in sustainable design and real estate development. Students who are interested in graduate-level study have four degree options to choose from. Students can pursue a Master of Architecture, Master of Architectural Studies, Master of Science in sustainable design and Master of City and Regional Planning. Students may pursue joint degrees in architecture and planning and architecture and sustainable design.

    University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee

    • The School of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee offers eight program options under architectural studies and seven program options in the urban planning section. Some of the architecture programs include a Bachelor of Science degree in architectural studies, a Master of Architecture, a Doctor of Philosophy in architecture and a graduate certificate in preservation studies. Some of the program options in urban planning include a Master of Urban Planning, undergraduate certificate in urban planning, a graduate certificate in geographic information systems and a graduate certificate in real estate development.
